Alcohol Counselling @ One40

At One40 from clients initial assessment; together we take the first step towards treating alcohol dependence, in recognizing the root issues. Many would say alcohol users struggle to recognize their own addiction due to denial.

Here at One40 we wouldn’t say ‘denial’ especially in the early stages of rehabilitation, we recognise and work with core emotions that often present as;

  • Pain
  • Fear
  • Guilt
  • Shame.

Our facilities are safe and therapeutic and offer the perfect setting for our clients to access these often stressful and anxiety provoking emotions, which is why Alcohol Counselling and therapeutic interventions are needed to help recognize the problems within themselves. Importantly our specialists in Trauma reduction will work with our clients to identify emotions in their negative state, emotions that are not those of our clients but have been passed on by others through traumatic life events and childhood experiences; hence this therapy is called ‘Trauma Reduction.’ One40 counsellors facilitate specialist therapy that assists clients in reducing their traumatic feelings by identifying carried emotions.

How Alcohol Counselling Can Help with your Drinking Problem:

Private Alcohol Counselling as part of the One40 A.C.T treatment model is an effective and proven way to treat alcohol dependence. It comes in various forms, ranging from behavioural therapies including 12 step core values, to One40 community led therapies and group/ process sessions. These therapies tackle behavioural and thinking patterns in order to break psychological and emotional ties that are linked to habitual behaviours that contribute to alcohol dependence.

In our dedication towards giving our clients the ability to understand their thought processes as well as the underlying feelings, emotions and behaviours, in relation to their negative and destructive behavioural patterns; including their alcohol misuse. We offer non-cognitive therapies including; Psychodrama and Equine Therapy, these offer gentle but high impact gateways for our clients to explore deep rooted emotional trauma and shame.

Our counsellors here at One40 can help you get to the root of your drinking problem. We have state-of-the-art clinics and facilities that provide you with the ideal therapeutic environment and cutting edge therapies to help find solutions, we also provide you with a supportive Recovery Community to help you maintain your journey in sobriety.

You may be struggling with alcohol abuse and not know it, until something life-altering occurs. Here are ways to help you recognize your drinking problem:

 1. Familiarize yourself with your drinking habits. Think about how much you spend on alcohol each week and the reasons behind your urges. Do you drink for fun? Do you drink to escape problems? Do you drink because all your friends do or because there is nothing else to do? Or do you drink because you crave it? Just because you drink too much or you drink for all the wrong reasons, does not mean you are addicted to alcohol. Some people are just plain drinkers and may have higher tolerance for alcohol than others. Others who crave alcohol or feel agitated, empty, and anxious without their fill of drink are more likely to be alcohol-dependent.

2. People with Alcoholic Addiction may experience different symptoms, but in most cases, if you find that you cannot function the same way without alcohol, then your body might be sending you the message that you have a drinking problem. Some symptoms to watch out for include an overwhelming desire for booze that distracts from your daily activities, uncontrollable urges once you start drinking, increased tolerance, and neglect for other areas of life, and Delirium Tremens, which is an extreme withdrawal reaction that often occurs after 2 or 3 days without drinking alcohol.

Please contact us or your own Doctor immediately if you start experiencing these symptoms. You will need a supervised Detox programme and alcohol counselling at to help you overcome your dependence and regain control over your urges and your life.

Alcoholism or alcohol dependence/Addiction is described as the repeated use (thus abuse) of alcoholic substances, caused by excessive cognitive and physiological dependence on alcohol. In Europe alone, an estimated 29 million people struggle with alcoholism, making alcohol the most widely available and in turn the most frequently abused drug in the region.
