Alumni - Aftercare

It’s important to continue the work you have started and aftercare is a very important part of on-going recovery. It is designed to enhance everything you learnt in your primary stage of treatment and support you whilst you re-enter your world recovering. Experience has shown that clients who make a commitment to attending Aftercare regularly have a much better outcome than those who do not. Aftercare is more than just therapy; it is a programme designed to continue the work you have started.

It aims to continue the structure and support you need whilst you gain confidence in your new life. The programme will look at various areas of your life, which may include food, nutrition, and relationship issues, cross addiction, co-dependency and life balance. Generally these are the most common issues that present themselves once someone has put down their drug of choice. The first year of recovery can often seem the hardest and it’s important you are supported as much as possible; we will however work towards you becoming independent and managing your own recovery.

We will seek to explore on-going issues that have presented themselves in your primary stage of treatment, aswell as addressing long term issues. We will encourage you to participate in 12-step fellowship meetings and look for a sponsor and where appropriate we also encourage you to take part in after-care groups. It’s important to consider we are all ‘works in progress’ and recovery is a life long journey, please don’t be daunted by this. It can be fun, rich, rewarding and incredibly fulfilling, as well as sometimes difficult.

Most will continue to have ‘stuff’ we need to work on, and with time you will develop ways and means of doing this, which will greatly improve the quality of your life, if you choose to do the work.

In the meantime, focus on what’s right in front of you; the most important thing is to take care of yourself and put your recovery first.

Aftercare is free for all graduates of our programme for as long as you feel you need it.
