Prescribed Medication Detox

A detox is crucial to recover from the dependence of prescription medication, the most widespread and successful way to detox by using a medically managed reduction. This can be by reducing the amount of prescription drugs taken or by altering the frequency.

There are hundreds of drugs that fall into the prescription medication category, pain relievers, anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medication, and stimulants to name very few. Each type of drug is accompanied by its own set of withdrawal symptoms.

It does not matter whether the drug is a stimulant or depressants. All prescription drugs impact both the chemistry of the brain and the functioning of the central nervous system. Long-term use of opiates (pain relievers), depressants, stimulants, anti-anxiety medications, or sleeping aids can impair bodily functions, which range from variations in heart rate to extreme psychological conditions, such as anxiety or paranoia.

We will only ever refer a user to a professional detox centre, who have the knowledge and capabilities to identify and support a user through the detox process. Qualified medical staff will be available to help users with any difficult withdrawal symptoms, which to name a few, may include anxiety, sweats, seizures, hallucinations and insomnia depending on the type of medication.
