Understanding Cause Of Depression

Many say they would not consult their doctor about the problem, fearing that the treatment options on offer would be limited.

There was the feeling that, if offered anti-depressants, they would not be kept fully informed as to the side effects.

There are countless reasons why people become depressed. Here are just a few :

Early life experiences, or even the genes you inherited, may well have left you with certain personality traits, such as low self-esteem or a tendency to be overly self-critical. These in turn can leave you more vulnerable to depression.

This can be due to a bereavement, redundancy, the breakdown of a relationship or simply the pressures of day-to-day living.

As a mother, you can be particularly vulnerable to depression following the birth of a child. The added responsibility, together with hormonal and physical changes can quite easily lead to postnatal depression.

Poor Health

A long-term illness, such as cancer or coronary heart disease can greatly increase the risk of depression.

Addictions and Disorders

The contributing factors to someone developing an addiction or disorder are all too often the very same ones that can lead to depression.
